Its earliest history predates the Spanish conquest, when itinerant sailors passing

in Mazatlan by a group of German settlers who developed the port facilities
in order to facilitate the import of agricultural equipment.
The Sierra Madre range retreats out of sight along this section of the coast,
depriving the town of the scenic backdrop of mountains that frame other vacation
resorts along the “Mexican Riviera”.
The original lures were hunting and sport fishing. But other natural attributes,
such as year-round warm weather and noteworthy Mazatlan sunsets and great beaches
attracted sun worshippers and beachcombers beginning in the 1930s.
